Types of Heat Detection
Common heat-detection methods include:
- Fixed-temperature detection: responds when the surrounding temperature reaches the device’s rated threshold.
- Rate-of-rise detection: responds when temperature increases rapidly within a specified period.
- Combination detection: uses compatible fixed-temperature and rate-of-rise functions in one device.
- Linear heat detection: monitors temperature conditions along a compatible detection cable or sensing path.
The appropriate method depends on the protected space, expected normal temperatures, ceiling conditions, airflow, equipment, and potential fire characteristics.
Heat Detector Applications
Heat detectors may be considered for compatible applications such as mechanical rooms, garages, warehouses, commercial kitchens, workshops, attics, utility spaces, and industrial environments.
