edge video storage is a core part of surveillance evidence management. Edge storage records surveillance video at or near the camera using supported memory cards or local storage devices. Storage must be designed around required retention, image quality, incident response, and recovery objectives.

How Edge Storage works

Edge storage records surveillance video at or near the camera using supported memory cards or local storage devices. Actual capacity and performance depend on camera streams, compression, motion, metadata, redundancy, and viewing activity.

Calculate retention and capacity

Inventory every stream and define resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate, recording schedule, and retention. Allow space for overhead, exports, rebuilds, growth, and degraded operating conditions.

Design considerations

Review media endurance, capacity, retention, health monitoring, encryption, overwrite rules, retrieval speed, and recorder synchronization. Confirm supported drives, firmware, environmental limits, power protection, and service procedures.

Cybersecurity and evidence protection

Use unique accounts, role-based permissions, encryption where supported, protected management access, accurate time synchronization, audit logs, and tested export procedures.

Reliability and testing

Test recording, search, playback, export, failover, restoration, health alerts, and recovery after power or network loss. RAID is not a substitute for backup where backup is required.

Plan the complete recording solution

Coordinate cameras, networks, storage, management software, operator workstations, and response procedures. Government projects should verify current NDAA and TAA requirements. Collsam Security can help size and organize the system.

Return to Recording and Storage

Contact Collsam Technology Inquiry
